If Coach Carroll had backed himself into a corner by starting Wilson in Friday nights game against the Chiefs, Russell’s impressive performance has all but eliminated any chance Pete had of an escape route. Wilson completed 13 of 19 passes for 185 yards and 2 scores. This brings his pre-season game totals to 35/52 464 yards, 5 TD’s and one INT. That equals out to a completion percentage of just over 67 % and 13.25 yards per catch. He also has rushed 10 times for 150 yards and a touch down. I hope the 12th man is ready because for better or worse Russell Wilson will be the starting QB for your Seattle Seahawks when they travel to Arizona in 2 weeks, and he has earned the right to be.
Game Notes :
The offensive line did a decent job of protecting Wilson and giving him unobstructed passing lanes.
Robert Turbin continues to impress with his Beast Mode impression. Turbin rushed 14 times for 93 yards and a 25 yard score while starting in place of Marshawn Lynch, who out due to a sore back.
The defense played well forcing the Chiefs first string offense into 4 consecutive 3 and outs to begin the game. Earl Thomas showed why he is considered to be one of the league’s top safeties by snagging a Matt Cassel 3rd quarter pass and taking 75 yards for the score.
Terrell Owens has proved he might be a physical freak of nature, but his desire to be a receiver in this league is gone. Owens did snag a nice 41-yard reception but had a couple of drops and didn’t fight for another one. I don’t expect him to be a Seahawk for much longer.
Golden Tate only had 1 catch but added a 95 yard punt return for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter.
Overall the Seahawks were pretty dominate over a team that hoped to compete for the NFC west crown this year, and the fans are justifiably optimistic about the teams prospects for this season. However, I would like to caution the 12th man to try to not get too caught up in ” Russell Mania” just yet. While he has played very well, he is a rookie and will struggle at times during the season. When that announcement is made among all the excitement in Seattle, just know that somewhere John Gruden is smiling…and probably collecting on a few bets as well.
