UW Men Hoops Pregame Primer vs USC Trojans

A battle of first versus the worse awaits Washington tonight at Alaskan Airlines Arena. The Huskies enter tonight’s game against the USC Trojans with a Pac 12 best record of 8-2, thanks to a lost by the California Golden Bears, Washington is now in first place in the conference. The Trojans on the other hand sit at the bottom of the Pac 12 with a record of 1-9 in conference.

On Thursday, Washington road the coat tails of Terrence Ross into victory over the UCLA Bruins. Tonight Ross will have a favorable matchup against the small Trojan’s back court, if the Huskies can exploit the size difference they have look for another big night for Ross.

Freshman sensation Tony Wroten is coming off a sub par showing against the Bruins (13 points and 5 turnovers) and he needs to get back to playing the way he had to begin conference play. With Wroten the Huskies possess a player capable of creating open and easier shots for others on the floor. Wroten also plays great when pushing the pace and attacking the rim, if that Wroten shows up tonight Washington should be able to extend their win streak to five games.

For USC a lot of the game will be decided by the play of 5’7″ sophomore Maurice Jones. Jones leads the Trojans in PPG, APG and SPG. If Jones is able to effect the game on both the offensive and defensive end USC has a real shot of escaping Hec Ed with a big win.

The Trojans do not do one particular thing well, which is shown by their one win in conference, and if Washington is able to come out focused and energized this should be an easy win for the Huskies and keep them on top of the Pac 12.
