The Sounders played their rivals to the north today at Casa Grande, Arizona. Today’s game was supposed to be a friendly preseason match between the Whitecaps and Sounders, but it was anything but friendly. The game consisted of two 45 minute halves with an extra 30 minutes added. The game ended 1-1 after 120 minutes of rough tackles and bad officiating, this helped the teams end the game with 10 yellow cards, and 1 red card.
The Whitecaps opened the scoring in the first minute of the game, but it was believed that the Whitecaps were offsides at the time of the goal, but it was not called by the official. The Whitecaps were lucky to escape from getting a red card in the 14th minute when their defender Bonjour made a sloppy tackle into Fucito’s upper leg. Fucito had to leave the game at the 29th minute because he was no longer able to play due to a punctured leg. Then in the 48th minute of the 2nd half, Carrasco scored and leveled it at 1-1. Then Sounders received a red card during the final minutes of the 30 extra minutes when Jason Banton slipped while tackling and came in reckless in the 118th minute.

The game also showed us a glimpse of what Sigi’s starting lineup might be against Santos on March 7th. This is the squad he put out for the first half of the game. It looks like he is focusing on Fucito being Montero’s partner up front.
Seattle: GK Michael Gspurning, D Adam Johansson, D Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, D Jeff Parke, D Leo Gonzalez, M Mauro Rosales, M Osvaldo Alonso, M Brad Evans, M Alvaro Fernandez, F Fredy Montero, F Mike Fucito.
