What Will Marshawn Lynch’s 2012 Hold?

Marshawn Lynch was charged last Wednesday with a DUI, after being arrested Saturday July 14th. On Friday of last week Marshawn issued an apology to his coaches, the NFL , his teammates and the 12th man, in part saying: …

“I want to apologize to my family, the Seattle Seahawks, the NFL and the 12th Man for the negative attention resulting from my recent actions, this is not the type of community leader I have been over the last two years or the one I’m striving to become. I want to assure everyone that I will work to be better and look forward to a very exciting, and very successful season with the Seattle Seahawks.”

Even with the apology, everyone from the NFL network to Dave at the local pub has blasted Lynch for his decision making. Twitter has been on fire with tweets about how the Seahawks should be regretting the contract they signed him to, and local talk radio has pondered a few questions regarding the arrest. Questions such as: will Marshawn get suspended, and if so, when and for how long? What will this do to the offense that was built around a power running game? No matter what questions are asked, it all comes down to this one very big worry: what does this mean for the Hawks in 2012?

Now unless Commissioner Goodell decides to act before the courts (which he hardly ever does), the most logical answer is… probably not a thing. Marshawn’s Lawyer, Ivan Golde, has been quoted as saying that his client “has a strong case to beat the charges” and that “the reason they (the prosecutor’s office) have to charge him is they can’t make the appearance they are giving a celebrity or an athlete preferential treatment”.

This is Lynch’s first DUI offense, his BAC while over the legal limit of .08, it is widely reported that it was not by much. Assuming the charges aren’t dropped or he doesn’t plead down to a reckless driving or a diversion program (both of which would not make the case for an automatic suspension) this will get bogged down in court until the end of the 2012 season. So fear not, 12th Man, we will get to see Beast Mode on full display at Century Link this season with all of its stiff-arming, head cracking, Skittle raining glory.

Oh and to those who have Lynch on their fantasy football team, you can breathe now.

What Will Marshawn Lynchs 2012 Hold?

I have been an unbiased Seattle sports fan since the mid-80′s. I have lived and died with every win and loss by our teams. The Dawgs national title in ’91 to the 0-12 in ’08, The M’s magic of ’95 to the 100 loss season of ’08, the Hawks run in ’05 to their demise in ’08, the Sonics flash in ’96 to…Well I don’t even want to talk about it but it hapened…’08. I will look to bring an every fans perspective to local Seahawk news as well as a look at some of the men and women that make the 12th man the loudest fans in the N.F.L.!
