A lot of news is coming out related to the Seahawks and I wanted to consolidate everything for you guys.
Obviously the Matt Flynn signing is the biggest news nugget within the past few weeks. Over at 710 ESPN, Kevin Calabro spoke with Flynn. The guys talked about why he chose Seattle as well as what the process was while he was in Seattle. For those of you that care – Matt Flynn’s girlfriend (see image) will be making the trip as well. The Seahawks are adamant that Matt Flynn and Tarvaris Jackson will be competing for the starters position. Salary doesn’t play a role in the decision at all, according to Pete Carroll.
You can listen to the interview in the player below.
Pete Carroll thinks the market for David Hawthorne will start heating up. Carroll stated that the Seahawks wants to bring both Hawthorne and Leroy Hill back for next season but that the 2012 NFL Draft is stocked with talented linebackers. To sum it up, the Seahawks won’t be overpaying for either one of their free agent linebackers. Hawthorne was actually on a flight to Detroit tonight when the Lions re-signed MLB Stephen Tulloch. It’s safe to say Hawthorne won’t be pleased and he’ll turn around and head right back home.
What does Peyton Manning choosing the Denver Broncos mean for the Seahawks? Nothing. The Seahawks don’t play the Broncos this season. As far as all the talk about the team having a plane ready in Denver just in case Manning was available for a quick visit, Pete Carroll said that it was in fact Manning that contacted the Seahawks about his interest to potentially play in Seattle. John Schneider and crew then made a decision to travel to Denver knowing that the chance to speak with him was slim. Carroll and Schneider joked about it on the plane that this was a perfect example of their mantra, “Always Compete.”
I’m still a little surprised that Manning did choose the Broncos in the end. Of all the teams that were rumored to be in the final running, The 49ers, Titans and Broncos – the Broncos have the least amount of offensive weapons. A domed stadium was the preference but with a limited selection, a warm weather destination was favored. Now he’ll play in a cold weather environment. One factor that Manning was supposedly not considering. I get that the AFC is a weaker conference and that he won’t have to worry about costing his brother a shot at the playoffs. I guess John Elway is a hell of a salesman.
Former Seahawks offensive lineman Jarriel King, and I say former because he is no longer with the Seahawks for what I am about to tell you, was released after being arrested for criminal sexual conduct. If you’d like further details you can take a look over at the Seattle Times as Danny O’Neil reported the news yesterday.
