The Seahawks made several roster cuts on Friday. Among the released were a few popular names in Seattle.
QB Josh Portis, WR Deon Butler, WR Ricardo Lockette, WR Kris Durham, WR Jermaine Kearse, WR Levasier Tuinei, TE Sean McGrath, G Paul Fanaika, G Rishaw Johnson and C Kris O’Dowd were the players cut from the offensive side of the ball.
DE Pierre Allen, LB Allen Bradford, LB Kyle Knox, LB Korey Toomer, DB Phillip Adams and DB DeShawn Shead were the defensive casualties.
With the release of Josh Portis and the recent trade of Tarvaris Jackson, the Seahawks currently only have two QB’s on the roster. Rookie Russell Wilson has already been named the starter and Matt Flynn has thus far shown to be a very capable backup QB in the NFL.
On a more positive note, rookie and first round draft pick, Bruce Irvin, finished the final preseason game against the Raiders with his first career sack. Irvin also registered a half-sack in the 21-3 victory.
The only other time in Seahawks history that the team had won all four preseason games was under Head Coach Jim Mora, who was then fired after he failed to parlay that success into the regular season, finishing 5-11.
