Marshawn Lynch and Seahawks “Deep” in Contract Talks

Paul Novak February 19, 2012 1

Over on this little thing called Tweeter or Twitter or something, anyways, this handy little tool for quick and easy sports news, Jason La Canfora says the Seahawks and Marshawn Lynch are “deep” in talks in terms of a new contract for the Pro Bowl running back. The team is however prepared to apply the Franchise tag on Mr. Beast Mode if talks break down.

I don’t think that management wants talks to break down. You don’t really want to make a guy with the nickname, “Beast Mode” angry, do you? Darren Sharper made him angry one time and it caused a damn earthquake.

This is what La Canfora had to say:

Seahawks: The Seahawks are deep in talks with running back Marshawn Lynch on a long-term deal, which could well be completed before the March 5 deadline. If that somehow falls apart, the Seahawks are prepared to tag Lynch, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Speaking of tag. Remember when you played tag in school? There was always that one big kid that would bowl people over and push them like rag dolls when he was “tagging” them? Marshawn Lynch seems like he was that kid. I can imagine John Schneider and Pete Carroll in a meeting room during negotiations with Lynch and his agent.

Schneider: “So Marshawn, I’m sorry but we just can’t afford to give you the deal that you’re asking for.”

Lynch: “Well… All I know is that y’all better not Franchise tag me.”

Pete Carroll and John Schneider get out of their seats and awkwardly laugh to themselves.

The two walk behind Lynch on their way to the door, and give each other a look. As Pete Carroll dashes for the exit, John Schneider screams TAG! as he slaps Lynch on the shoulder and sprints for his life. Once the tag is applied Marshawn knocks over the desk and chairs and lowers his shoulder as he pursues the two down the hall.

Really?

The next day the Seahawks announce a multi-year deal with their Pro Bowl running back.

Believe it or not, that’s exactly how this is going to go down.
