Reading over dozens of posts about the Mariners trade of Michael Pineda for Jesus Montero, there seems to be a consensus that the majority of people don’t know how they feel about the trade. Forums have been flooded with comments but again, the vast majority don’t reach a clear consensus on who “won” the trade. There doesn’t really need to be a winner and the thinking that each team can’t win is also a little odd but for the sake of this post, we want to declare a winner.
Pineda was the most known commodity in the trade, yet he suffered over the second half of the season. Jesus Montero has the greatest potential of the four players, but that’s never a sure thing.
The secondary pieces aren’t stars and aside from one season of relief work for Hector Noesi, are unproven major leaguers.
