Proposed New Sonics Arena Images

Updated images have been released of the new Sonics arena that is currently in the design/planning stages. With the Kings to Seattle talk heating up over the past two weeks and the word that the Chris Hansen and Steve Ballmer led group and the Maloof brothers have already reached an agreement, the city of Seattle is buzzing at an all-time high with Sonics fever.

Architecture 360, the Kansas City based company that is designing the new Sonics arena has added the images of the potential building that the Sonics would call home to their website. Before any groundwork is to be started, the proposed Sonics arena needs to be approved by the cities Design Review Board and a few changes to the original design have already been suggested. The below image gallery shows the largest addition is a huge wall-like portion that connects to the arena and would serve as an overlook for the plaza that would be the main entrance to the arena.

One of the main criticisms of the building is the orange, jello like mold that sits atop the arena. Architecture 360 and the city of Seattle are both stressing that the color is not finalized, and the building design is also open to changes, as we’ve already seen.

The new Sonics arena will also be home to a potential NHL franchise, if one would become available.

The arena is designed to be environmentally friendly, with water storage capabilities in place to reuse rain water and runoff water from showers, dishwashing and laundry. Solar paneling has also been discussed and the arenas power plant is expected to provide electricity to the surrounding buildings as well.

Take a look at the nine new images of the proposed Sonics arena and tell us what you think in the comments section.
